Our House System
At Walton-le-Dale High School, we believe that education has the power to change young people’s lives. Education is for life — it’s about far more than preparing for exams.
We want our students to achieve the best academic outcomes possible, but equally, we want them to leave us as well-rounded, confident and caring individuals. We aim for our students to live effectively — as individuals, as members of groups, and as active citizens within their community and the wider world, showing respect for others and the environment.
Our Houses
To support this ethos, our school is structured into five houses:
Calder | Darwen | Hodder | Ribble | Yarrow
Each house has a House Achievement Leader (HAL) who works closely with students and their families to ensure that every young person feels known, supported and valued.
The House System
Our House System enhances our pastoral care by:
- Creating a strong sense of belonging and identity
- Encouraging every student to excel in all areas of school life
- Providing opportunities for students to explore new interests and experiences
- Aiding with the transition from Year 6 to Year 7, helping new students settle quickly and confidently
- Supporting communication by ensuring that students within the same family belong to the same house
- Expanding opportunities for student leadership and responsibility
- Fostering healthy competition and teamwork through house events and challenges
Through the House System, students become part of a supportive community that celebrates achievement, encourages participation, and promotes the values of Belong, Explore, Excel that define Walton-le-Dale High School.
